The fabulous frontier: Twelve New Mexico items / Print William A. Keleher - 1st ed. - Santa Fe, NM Rydal Press 1945 - 317 p. B&W photographs; index Hardback book

Southeast New Mexico, because it had no land grant problems and was really a new country in 1870, offered a golden opportunity to men seeking a new horizon of life. "The Fabulous Frontier" recaptures the atmosphere prevailing in Territorial days in southeast New Mexico. Men who came to eventually settle these "staked plains" were army veterans, rascals, carpetbaggers, and railroaders. Murder, stagecoach robberies, unrest among the Indians in New Mexico, prospecting - all of it decidedly created a bit of the last western frontier.
