520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc | This book started out as a simple bedtime story, about a brave little Indian boy, told to my grandchildren. Their delight and their intense identification with the times, the people, and places and the land itself caused me to expand the bedtime story into a travelogue. This travelogue covers time as well as space. The Indian people are real 20th century friends. The legends are part of their ancient stories and rituals. Bunze's Zuni Ritual Poetry is my sources for the fragment of the Shalako Chant. The deer with heart and vital sport has appeared on Pueblo pottery for centuries. Ward's drawings capture exactly the mood and the geography of this beautiful land. |
