This Christmas story, tender and deeply stirring, is set in New Mexico in 1809. It is the story of the brothers Roberto and Carlos Castillo, the one lit by imaginative fire, the other by practical wisdom. Together, the brother made an art of the craft of santimaking, taught them by an itinerant Franciscan father. Roberto has the task of delivering their masterpiece, a statue of St. Christopher holding the Christ child, to the tiny community of San Cristobal, where it is to be placed in the church of Christmas Eve. Mr. Horgan brings to life the story of two brothers and an abiding faith that wrought a miracle at Christmas time.
