Harry Lee was fortunate to have been born a Lee of Virginia. In spite of what many people thought, Harry's first words were probably not " Charge the Bastards! Ride them down, boys!" Yet they might have been. The son of a wealthy planter, he learned to ride and perhaps even to swear at three or four. By the time he was in college his acquaintances included men like James Madison and Aaron Burr.
