The pioneer years of oil exploration and the struggle for survival of the fittest makes the Texas Panhandle oil story as exciting as the Gold Rush days. Many tried and fell by the wayside, others succeeded and sold out to larger corporations. The 1919 date is used because of the systematic approach to oil exploration used to make oil an industry of the Panhandle, much like ranching and cattle. Preserving the history of oil in the Panhandle is the purpose of this story.
