Timothy O'Sullivan: America's forgotten photographer / Print James D. Horan - New York Bonanza Books 1966 - 334 p. Biographical text with black & white photographs. Hardback book

One of the most daring yet sensitive of the Civil War and Western frontier photographers was Timothy H. O'Sullivan, whose camera and glass plates captured the American scene from the fields of Gettysburg to the roaring gold camp that was Virginia City. He served under many generals, saw action on many fronts both of Darien (Panama), then to the deserts of the early southwest and the mountain ranges of the One Hundredth Meridian. Ironically, many of his great Civil War photographs have at times been erroneously credited to Mathew B. Brady, his friend and his mentor.
